How AMLChecklist works (and how it stays free)
Short version: the checklist tool is free. AML vendors pay us for the leads we generate when users choose to share their details. We're upfront about it — here, and at the point of capture.
AMLChecklist exists to do one thing well — help Australian businesses figure out exactly what their AML/CTF obligations are under AUSTRAC's Tranche 2 reforms. You answer a few questions about your industry, size, and customer types. We give you back a personalised compliance checklist showing the obligations that apply specifically to your business.
No paywall. No gated content. No charge to use the tool itself.
So how does this stay free?
When you complete your checklist and choose to share your contact details, we may pass those details to up to three AML vendors whose products match the obligations we've identified for your business. Those vendors pay AMLChecklist a fee for warm, qualified leads. That's how we fund the tool.
One — sharing your details is your choice, not ours.
When you reach the end of the checklist, you'll see a clear opt-in checkbox. Tick it, and your details go to relevant vendors. Untick it, and we'll send you your checklist with no vendor contact. The tool stays free either way. We don't paywall the checklist behind a forced opt-in.
Two — we only share with vendors whose product matches what your checklist says you need.
If your checklist identifies that you need ID verification software, we'll only pass your details to ID verification vendors. We don't blanket-distribute your details to every vendor on our partner list.
What we share
If you opt in:
- Your name and business name
- Your email and phone number
- Your industry and business size
- The obligations identified in your checklist
That's it. Nothing else.
What we don't do
- Sell your details to lead-gen aggregators or generic mailing lists
- Pass your information to companies outside the AML/CTF software market
- Share anything you didn't enter into the form
- Continue sharing your details after the initial vendor introduction (no ongoing data sale)
Why we built it this way
Tranche 2 brings 100,000+ Australian businesses into the AML/CTF regime by 1 July 2026. Most have no in-house compliance expertise and no easy way to work out what's required. AUSTRAC's official guidance is comprehensive but written for compliance professionals.
Someone has to fund the translation of that into plain English. We could charge for AMLChecklist directly — but most of the businesses who need this tool are small, time-poor, and would never pay $49 for a compliance checklist. So instead, the vendors who do benefit from these businesses finding compliance software help fund the tool that gets them there.
We think that's a fair exchange — provided we're honest about it. Hence this page.
What about the rest of AMLNetwork?
AMLChecklist is one part of a wider network:
- AMLChecklist — this tool. Tells you what you need to do.
- WhichAML — helps you decide which vendor fits your business.
- CompareAML — lets you compare vendors side by side.
- AMLNetwork — the parent brand, with deeper education content.
WhichAML and CompareAML have a different revenue model — they earn a referral fee when a business signs up with a vendor through their platforms. Different mechanic, same principle: vendors pay, users don't.
Each platform discloses its model on its own site. AMLChecklist's model is the lead-share model described above.
AMLChecklist & AMLNetwork — FAQ
We get these questions a lot. Short answers below; email us if you want the long version.
Is AMLChecklist the same company as AMLNetwork?
AMLChecklist is built and operated under the AMLNetwork umbrella, but it's a standalone tool with its own purpose: telling Australian SMEs exactly what AML/CTF obligations apply to them under Tranche 2. AMLNetwork is the parent brand that also runs WhichAML and CompareAML.
If I sign up to AMLChecklist, will I be on AMLNetwork's mailing list?
No. Signing up to AMLChecklist subscribes you only to AMLChecklist's weekly Tranche 2 update, and only if you ticked that box. We don't cross-list you onto WhichAML, CompareAML, or AMLNetwork's broader newsletters.
If I share my details with vendors here, do AMLNetwork's other sites see them?
No. The vendor opt-in on AMLChecklist applies only to vendors matched against your AMLChecklist profile. WhichAML and CompareAML have their own separate consent flows on their own sites.
Why does the network exist instead of one site?
Different jobs need different tools. AMLChecklist tells you what you must do; WhichAML helps you pick the right vendor; CompareAML lets you compare specific products side by side. Splitting them keeps each tool focused and easier to use than one giant catch-all platform.
Who do I contact about my AMLChecklist data?
Email hello@amlchecklist.com.au. AMLChecklist handles its own data requests directly — you don't need to go through AMLNetwork.
Is AMLChecklist independent of the vendors it lists?
Yes. Vendors pay for warm leads, not for editorial coverage. Our checklists, quiz scoring, and articles are written by the AMLChecklist team and aren't influenced by which vendors are on our partner list.
