1. About AMLChecklist
AMLChecklist is a digital resource operated by The AML Intelligence Network Pty Ltd (ABN 44 696 407 600) at amlchecklist.com.au. AMLChecklist provides self-assessment tools, checklists, and general guidance to help Australian businesses understand the steps typically involved in building an AML/CTF compliance program under Australia's reformed AML/CTF laws.
AMLChecklist is an educational and self-help resource. It is not legal advice, regulatory guidance, or a substitute for a professionally developed AML/CTF compliance program.
2. What AMLChecklist Provides
AMLChecklist offers:
- Downloadable and interactive self-assessment checklists based on general AML/CTF program requirements
- Guides covering key concepts such as customer due diligence (CDD), know your customer (KYC), politically exposed persons (PEPs), beneficial ownership, and suspicious matter reporting
- Information about Tranche 2 reform requirements and timelines
- General templates and resources to assist businesses beginning their compliance journey
All materials are based on our general understanding of AUSTRAC's published guidance and the AML/CTF Amendment Act 2024. They are not tailored to your specific business, industry sector, or risk profile.
3. Critical Limitations
Please read this section carefully before using or relying on AMLChecklist resources.
An AML/CTF compliance program is a legal requirement for regulated businesses. It must be tailored to your specific business, the designated services you provide, your customer base, and your risk profile. AUSTRAC expects compliance programs to reflect genuine, documented risk assessment and management processes appropriate to your business.
AMLChecklist resources:
- Are not a compliant AML/CTF program in themselves
- Do not satisfy your obligations under the AML/CTF Act 2006 or Rules
- Have not been reviewed or approved by AUSTRAC
- Are not a substitute for engaging a qualified AML compliance professional or legal adviser to develop your program
- May not reflect the most current AUSTRAC guidance or sector-specific requirements
Using an AMLChecklist template or completing a checklist does not mean your business has met its AML/CTF obligations.
4. Who Needs an AML/CTF Program
Under the AML/CTF Amendment Act 2024, all reporting entities (including Tranche 2 entities from 1 July 2026) are required to develop and maintain an AML/CTF program. Tranche 2 entities include real estate professionals, lawyers, accountants, trust and company service providers, and dealers in precious metals and stones.
AUSTRAC has indicated that it will take a risk-based approach to compliance but expects all regulated entities to have genuine programs in place. Non-compliance carries significant penalties.
AMLChecklist resources may help you understand what is required and begin the process of developing your program. They are a starting point, not an end point.

Nothing on amlchecklist.com.au constitutes legal advice. The AML Intelligence Network Pty Ltd is not a law firm. AMLChecklist resources are educational materials only. For advice on your specific obligations, engage a qualified AML compliance professional or Australian legal practitioner.
